About this site
McKenzie Friend Services is an information website about McKenzie Friends and about representing yourself in the family court in England and Wales. It is a guide, not a service. It takes no enquiries about your case, keeps no directory and recommends nobody. Where a paid service is relevant we name it, and we say plainly when it is one of ours.
- A guide, not a service. No enquiry forms, no directory, no recommendations.
- Family Law Service is run by the same company as this site. Where we mention it, we say so, and we link the free and neutral options alongside.
- We take nothing for sending you to Family Law Service or to anyone else.
- No named legal reviewer. Accuracy is anchored to primary sources instead.
- Not connected with The McKenzie Friend UK Network Ltd, or with mckenziefriendservice.co.uk, or with any other similarly named organisation.
What this site does
It explains what a McKenzie Friend may and may not lawfully do, what representing yourself in the family court involves, and how the documents a court expects are structured. Every statement about the limits of the role carries an inline link to the practice guidance or the statute it comes from.
What this site does not do
- It does not keep a directory and does not recommend, approve, accredit or vet anyone. No such process exists, and any site claiming otherwise is describing something that is not real. Why.
- It does not give legal advice. The disclaimer.
- It does not take enquiries about your case, and cannot answer them.
- It carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored content, and takes no payment from anyone for a mention.
- It does not hide who runs it. Family Law Service is run by the same company as this site, and every mention of it says so on the page where it appears.
Who runs it
This site is run by the same small team that runs Family Law Service, which sells fixed-fee help with family court documents and preparation, some of it carried out by McKenzie Friends. We are telling you that near the top of the page rather than burying it, because it is the thing a reader most needs to know about a site like this. The two are separate sites doing separate jobs: this one explains the role, that one sells help with the paperwork.
Here is the deal we are offering you. Everything on this site about what a McKenzie Friend may and may not lawfully do is taken from the practice guidance and the statute, with the paragraph number next to it, so you can check it rather than trust us. Nothing on those pages is softened because we also sell a service. The pages that say a McKenzie Friend is the wrong answer say it just as plainly as before.
Where we mention Family Law Service, we say it is ours, we say what it costs, and we put the free options next to it. If you ever find a page where we have not done that, tell us and we will fix it.
Who we are not connected with
Several organisations use similar names. To be clear: this website is not connected with, endorsed by or affiliated to The McKenzie Friend UK Network Ltd, mckenziefriendservice.co.uk, or any membership association, network or society of McKenzie Friends. We are not a member of any such body and we do not accredit anyone.
Accuracy, without a named reviewer
Most legal information sites name a reviewer. This one does not, because we would rather anchor accuracy to sources you can check than to a name you cannot. Every page carries the date it was last checked and links to the primary source for each factual claim about the law. How that works in practice.
